View my Flickr photo set from both the McCain and Obama'a rallies on Saturday, and Sunday's Democrat BBQ at Tom Udall's Albuquerque headquarters office here.Network reporters, like my colleague Ann Compton at ABC News, have seen it all. Last night, Compton, who I last visited with at Highland High School, during a Hillary Clinton primary rally, was impressed with the size of the crowd at UNM's Johnson Field last night.
The veteran White House reporter told me that Obama's rhetoric on the stump has become simple and direct: No tax increases for most Americans and small businesses, and No more Bush policies.
Compton, who did not raise her hand, when Sen. Barack Obama asked for a showing of people who made less than $250,000, told me large crowds (more than 100,000 turned out in Denver Sunday afternoon) have become the trademark of his campaign.
This is text compiled from several of Compton's national reports filed live from the campus. To hear Compton tune to 770KKOB at the top of the hour and on election night. Note: TV and Radio broadcasters almost always prepare their scripts in ALL CAPS.
1) ON A MILD SATURDAY EVENING ON THIS COLLEGE CAMPUS THOUSANDS HAVE TURNED OUT TO HEAR AND CHEER BARACK OBAMA. A STARK CONTRAST TO THE JOHN MCCAIN RALLY JUST UP THE STREET A COUPLE OF HOURS AGO WHERE LESS THAN A THOUSAND REPUBLICANS SHOWED UP TO HEAR THE CANDIDATE ((CHEERS)).
2) JUST 2 MILES DOWN THE ROAD FROM THE MCCAIN RALLY EARLIER IN ALBUQUERQUE, BARACK OBAMA IS MAKING HIS PITCH ((IF YOU'LL EARLY VOTE FOR ME I PROMISE YOU NEW MEXICO WE WILL NOT JUST WIN THIS ELECTION BUT YOU AND I TOGETHER WE'RE GONNA CHANGE THE COUNTRY AND CHANGE THE WORLD)). ANN COMPTON ABC NEWS, ALBUQUERQUE.
3) THE RACE IS ON TO GET OUT THE VOTE BEFORE ELECTION DAY. ABC'S ANN COMPTON, TRAVELING WITH THE OBAMA CAMPAIGN IN NEW MEXICO: IN CITY PARKS AND ON UNIVERSITY CAMPUSES, BARACK OBAMA HAS NO TROUBLE DRAWING BIG CROWDS. (AND I KNOW SEEING THIS CROWD HERE TONIGHT THAT WE WILL NOT LET UP UNTIL WE'VE BROUGHT CHANGE TO AMERICA). BUT WHAT HE'S TRYING TO DO IN ALL THESE WESTERN STATES IS GET OUT THE EARLY VOTE. IN MANY LOCATIONS, EARLY VOTING ENDS THIS COMING FRIDAY. ANN COMPTON, ABCN, ALBUQUERQUE.
4) BARACK OBAMA MOCKS JOHN MCCAIN FOR TRYING TO DISOWN PRESIDENT BUSH AND REPUBLICAN ECONOMIC POLICIES. ((LIKE TONTO GETTING MAD AT THE LONE RANGER)) . YOUNG AUDIENCES DIDN'T SEEM TO GET IT. SO OBAMA TRIED AGAIN. ((THAT'S LIKE ROBIN GETTING MAD AT BATMAN - LAUGHTER)) . THAT LINE SEEMED TO WORK. ANN COMPTON ABC NEWS WITH THE OBAMA CAMPAIGN IN NEW MEXICO.
